Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Day weekend was so special this year! It started with a thankful tree. Amy and the kids picked a dead tree branch and cut out circles for decoration.  On the circles we had to write what we were thankful for this year! I, of course, wrote that I was thankful for Amy and what a wonderful teacher God has provided for us this year!!
Our Thankful Tree
On Wednesday night the kids put on a Thanksgiving program for us. It included poems and singing and we even served cookies at the end of the program. Jennifer, our teammate, and her dad and brother also joined in watching the program.  I can't tell you how wonderful it was!
Amy also did a thanksgiving craft with the kids! They made tin can candle holders. They poked holes in the can in the shape of a turkey, pumpkin, apple, and a maple leaf. Then the cans were painted a beautiful brown color! I love that my kids are getting the extras of school!
On Thanksgiving we celebrated with our team at our home. On Wednesday we slaughtered two turkeys and then cooked them all day. We had a feast of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, carrot soufflĂ©', sweet potatoes, and many pies and other desserts.  So much good food and fellowship. We sang thanksgiving hymns and even sang one as a round. We all went around to say what we were thankful for. In the afternoon, we played game and had turkey sandwiches for dinner around the campfire! We even had homemade marshmallows that some of the kids roasted! What a huge blessing the day was.
God has blessed us with a wonderful team/family here in Uganda.
